EarthLink posted a lower quarterly profit amid competition. The company said its second quarter net profit fell to $43.8 million, or 31 cents a share, from a net profit of $49.7 million, also 31 cents a share, a year earlier.
Revenue fell to $325.7 million from $348.6 million a year ago. Analysts on average had forecast earnings per share at 25 cents on revenue of $329.9 million, according to Reuters Estimates.
Earthlink added 10,000 net subscribers for a total of 5.4 million subscribers at the end of the quarter, reflecting a rise in high-speed Internet subscribers that was partially offset by a loss of slower dialup subscriptions.
The company said it expected third-quarter revenue in the range of $315 million to $320 million and net profit of $26 million to $36 million. Earthlink forecast full-year revenue at about $1.3 billion with a net profit of $125 million to $145 million.
Analysts had forecast revenue of nearly $330 million in the third quarter and $1.33 billion for the full year.
