Lexar Media Inc. has settled its patent infringement case with Memorex involving CompactFlash cards.
Memorex will make a one-time payment for past sales of the CompactFlash cards to Lexar and will agree to an injunction that would prohibit it from selling CompactFlash products that infringe Lexar's patents in the future. The settlement agreement does not include a license for future sales.
This agreement ends litigation that began in 2001 when Lexar claimed infringement of a number of its flash patents.
"We are glad that we were able to constructively resolve our dispute with Memorex," said Eric Whitaker, executive vice president and general counsel of Lexar, in a statement. "We believe we have one of the broadest patent portfolios in the flash arena and we expect to continue discussions with a number of companies who want design freedom for flash products."
