Ericsson says it plans to invest $1 billion in China over the next five years, a senior company official said.
The plan, spanning 2006-2010, is part of Ericsson's long-term commitment to China, said Mats H Olsson, president of Ericsson Greater China.
The spending will go to manufacturing, research and development, and service capacity expansion, according to a company presentation to be given at an Ericsson-sponsored event in Shanghai on Wednesday.
Stockholm-based Ericsson is the world's largest supplier of telecom equipment. It recently reported that its revenue grew 8 percent in the second quarter from the same quarter a year ago in the Asia-Pacific region, with strong results in China and India as Asian telecoms operators expand their existing networks.
