UMC sales rose to NT$8.01 billion ($245 million) in August, up 13.4 percent from July but down 30.4 per cent from a year earlier.
Sales in the eight months to August were NT$54.80 billion ($1.678 billion), down 29 percent from the like period a year ago.
Taiwan's top two foundries, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and UMC, both reported sales revenues for July that were up on the previous month. However, both companies also continued to lose ground compared with their sales performances in 2004.
UMC reported poor financial results for the second quarter, in contrast to its rival TSMC, but gave an upbeat forecast for the third quarter.
