Boise, Idaho-based memory leader Micron Technology Inc. opened its expanded 264,778-square foot facility in Singapore for assembling and testing high-density, high-speed memory components and modules, the company has reported.
“Micron’s long-term success is influenced by our efforts to serve a variety of markets combined with our ability to develop new and innovative technologies,” said Steve Appleton chairman, president and CEO of Micron, in a statement.
“The $250 million investment in our Singapore expansion reinforces Micron’s ability to meet the growing demand for semiconductors throughout the expanding Asian marketplace,” he added.
Micron Semiconductor Asia PTE Ltd. is a key manufacturing and sales focus for Micron in Asia with nearly 3,000 employees working at its Singapore operation, explained Jen Kwong Hwa, managing director of Micron Semiconductor Asia in Singapore.
“Success at Micron’s Singapore operation, along with the business-friendly environment, efficient infrastructure, and a well-trained workforce were all factors in the decision to expand the test and assembly areas by 40 percent,” Hwa said.
Micron's presence in Singapore also includes a sales and marketing office for all Micron memory products in the Asia-Pacific region and a joint venture interest in fab operations at TECH Semiconductor.
