Yahoo and Microsoft are close to announcing a partnership that would let their instant-messaging tools communicate with each other, a first for an industry that has limited people to using the same service if they want to talk to each other.
The collaboration could be announced in anytime, according to reports in the Wall Street Journal and CNet news. A spokeswoman for Yahoo said the company would not comment on ``rumors or speculation.'' A Microsoft representative could not be reached.
Under the new agreement, Yahoo's and Microsoft's instant-messaging users would be able to send messages to each other.
