Munich prosecutors have confirmed that they are investigating Ulrich Schumacher, former chief executive officer of Infineon Technologies AG, as part of a probe into corruption at the German chip company, according to a Reuters report Monday (Oct. 24).
German weekly magazine Focus reported that the Schumacher was under suspicion and that Schumacher denied any wrongdoing but was cooperating with the authorities, according to Reuters.
“I can confirm the article. It's true,” the Reuters report quoted a spokeman for the Munich prosecutors office, as saying.
Schumacher resigned suddenly from the company in March 2004, during a supervisory board meeting. No reason for Schumacher's departure was given at the time.
Andreas von Zitzewitz, former head of memory products business group at Infineon, resigned from Infineon in July 2005 after coming under investigation after allegations were made by Ralf-Udo Schneider, managing director of BF Consulting GmbH regarding motorsport sponsorship contract payments.
