SiS projects 4Q chipset shipments up 32%

Thursday, October 27, 2005

Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) projects its chipset shipments will climb to seven million units in the fourth quarter, up 32% from 5.3 million units last quarter. Supply of chipsets, including the SiS661, have recovered from a component shortage since October, according to the company.

Recent data from Mercury Research showed that only Intel and SiS were among the global top-six chipset players to experience a sequential decline in market shares in the third quarter. Taiwan-based VIA Technologies and ULi Electronics, however, enjoyed on-quarter growth of 2.4% and 1%, respectively, in the same quarter, the research firm stated.

As an upstream component shortage continues to ease throughout the end of this year, SiS may surpass monthly shipments of two million chipsets in October and ship 2.5-2.6 million units in November, the company said. SiS anticipates its full-year shipments will approach the seven million mark.
