Asustek Computer may beat Samsung Electronics to become Dell’s fourth contract maker for notebooks, joining the ranks of Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, and Wistron, the Chinese-language Commercial Times indicated today.
The paper said Dell will likely place an order for a slim-profile notebook model with Asustek, with volume shipments slated for the fourth quarter of 2006.
Asustek declined to comment on the report, citing customer confidentiality. The company aims to ship a total of four million notebooks in 2005 and six million units next year, with branded shipments of 1.6 million units this year and 2.5-3 million units in 2006.
