Sun Microsystems posted a quarterly net loss that narrowed slightly from a year ago as revenue rose.
Sun said its net loss for the first fiscal quarter ended September 25 was $123 million, or 4 cents per share, compared with a year-ago net loss of $133 million, or 4 cents per share. Revenue rose to $2.73 billion from $2.63 billion.
Excluding charges and costs for stock-based compensation, Sun said it had a loss of 1 cent per share, in line with estimate.
During the quarter, Sun closed its $4.1 billion purchase of Storage Technology, also known as StorageTek, aimed at bolstering its presence in the fast-growing data storage market and returning the company to growth.
