In response to the growing demand for laptops with big screens, Samsung Electronics yesterday unveiled a laptop with a 19-inch liquid crystal display, the biggest on the Korean market.
"We plan to grab the pole position in the liquid crystal display market by targeting users of premium laptops" a Samsung spokesman said. Samsung's new laptop, the M70, costs 5.4 million won ($5,180), almost 2 million won more than the current most expensive model.
The screen, three inches larger than that used on most models, can be detached from the laptop and has a specially designed cradle that allows it to be linked to a desktop computer or television. Samsung Electronics said the display boasts a picture quality that is a match for any high-definition television. Equipped with a tuner that can receive broadcasts from all over the world, the laptop allows users to watch television shows wherever they go.
Also, the M70 has a DVD player and an advanced sound system with two high-performance speakers and one woofer. At just 4.4 kilograms (9.7 pounds), the laptop weighs about the same as 17-inch models, and is fitted with an Intel Centrino processor and four universal serial bus, or USB, ports.
