Huawei selects Agere network processor

Tuesday, November 15, 2005 Huawei Technologies will use Agere Systems Inc.’s Advanced Payload Plus 300 network processor and Link Layer processor in its next-generation 3G infrastructure equipment.

The two companies announced at this week’s 3G World Congress in Hong Kong that the processors will be used in switching systems that integrate Asynchronous Transfer Mode and Internet Protocol traffic.

Agere has bundled the two processors with support software into a TrueAdvantage suite for wireless applications. Huawei will use the chips and hardware in systems supporting both wideband CDMA and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network interfaces.

Huawei is one of China's largest telecommunications equipment makers.

In October, Agere scored another design win in China for its APP300 family of processors when ZTE Corp. announced it would used the network processors in its next generation of DSLAM platforms.
