Following the January sale of a significant part of its fiber optics group, Infineon Technologies AG said today it has found buyers for the remaining fiber optics assets including its manufacturing facility in Trutnov, Czech Republic and its Paroli business.
Automotive supplier Siemens VDO has agreed to take over the Trutnov plant beginning July 1, 2006. Until then, the companies will work in parallel at the site to allow Siemens VDO to ramp production of electric motor drives while Infineon fulfilling remaining customers requirements.
Siemens VDO said it intends to recruit its personnel from the current 500 person Infineon workforce.
In January, Infineon sold its fiber optics transceiver business to Finisar Corp. Soon after, the plastic optical fiber business was reorganized to become part of Infineon’s automotive, industrial and multi-market business group.
In regard to Infineon’s Paroli products, these have been put on “end-of-life” status with mutual agreement regarding the respective key customer requirements, the company said. Consequently, customers have placed last time orders to be fulfilled by Infineon over the next quarters.
In August, Infineon signed an agreement with EZConn Corp. of Taiwan concerning the sale of the business with bidirectional components for FTTx applications. Under the terms of this agreement, EZconn acquired all assets and IP of the FTTx business, that included Infineon’s wafer level micro-module processes, an enabling technology for the next generation of higher performance and more efficient volume OSA manufacturing.
EZconn said it would open a design and marketing center in Berlin, Germany to offer key employees of Infineon new jobs.
Overall, the restructuring measures undertaken led to the elimination of operating losses in the fiber optics business, Infineon concluded.
