Micron Technology Inc., Hynix Semiconductor Inc. and Renesas Technology Corp. all easily exceeded the growth of the NAND flash memory market in third quarter, which moved ahead 30.2 percent sequentially from the second quarter, according to market research company iSuppli Corp.
Market leader Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. was the exception scoring growth of 19.2 percent but still claiming 50.2 percent of the $2.97 billion market for NAND flash in Q3.
Micron increased its NAND revenue by 400 percent, causing its ranking to rise to fifth place, up from seventh in the second quarter. Micron climbed at the expense of STMicroelectronics which slipped from fifth to seventh place after achieving revenue growth of just 3.8 percent, iSuppli (El Segundo, Calif.) said.
Hynix's NAND revenue rose by 58.9 percent during the quarter, causing it to close its market-share gap with Toshiba Corp. to 9.6 percentage points in the third quarter, down from 12.4 percentage points in the second quarter. Renesas' NAND-flash sales increased by 46.4 percent sequentially, iSuppli said.
