NOR flash market is gaining momentum and is expected to post a 19 percent growth in 2006, according to data from Semico Research Corp.
Semico said NOR revenue has risen steadily from the second quarter of 2004, and is projected to hit $7.2 billion in 2005. Revenue will reach $13 billion by 2008, the firm said.
"The correct that Semico forecast for the second half of 2005 has materialized, reversing 2004's sharp NOR price decline, the result of a supply/demand imbalance," said Jim Handy, director of nonvolatile memory services for Semico, in a statement.
NOR flash is beginning to see stiff competition from NAND flash, but continues to hold its own in applications such as mobile phones.
