Aimed at 64-bit computer operating systems that manage vast amounts of data at once, Seoul, Korea-based Hynix Semiconductor Inc. today unveiled what it claims is the world’s first, fastest and highest density graphics memory – the 512Mbit GDDR4 DRAM.
GDDR is an ultra-high speed graphics DRAM that processes moving pictures and graphic data in personal computers and game consoles, the fourth-generation of which –GDDR4 – improves data processing speed by close to two times than that of GDDR3, Hynix said.
Hynix said its 16Mx32 512Mbit GDDR4 operates at 2.9Gbps and processes 11.6Gbytes of data in 1 second.
The company said it will soon start sampling its GDDR4 products to leading graphic chipset suppliers and with plans to begin mass production in early 2006.
A GDDR4 DRAM with 14.4Gbytes speed is slated for the second half of 2006, Hynix concluded.
