Taiwanese foundry giant United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) said today that sales for November creeped up 1.4 percent year over year, and up 4.1 percent month over month.
The foundry reported its monthly sales figures earlier today. In November it posted sales of approximately $281.3 million (9.4 billion new Taiwanese dollars); in the year ago period it posted sales of approximately $288.2 million (9.28 billion NT) (Editor's Note: the current exchange rate is 1 NT per 0.029886 U.S dollars; at the end of November, 2004, it was 1 NT per 0.0310559 U.S. dollars).
While November's numbers may reflect a seasonal, near-term improvement, the year-to-date numbers tell a different story. From January through November, UMC reported sales of approximately $2.4 billion (81.8 billion NT), down 24.6 percent from the same period in 2004.
