A transportation truck loaded with $565,000 worth of Maxim chips was hijacked in the Philippines Dec. 17, Maxim said Wednesday (Dec. 21).

According to Maxim (Sunnyvale, Calif.), the parts were traveling on a Federal Express truck en route to customers that had already purchased them. Maxim said it is in the process of notifying the customers and aiding them where possible to help them recover from the loss.

The situation is eerily similar to the one Maxim found itself in facing in late April, when a truck carrying more than $2 million worth of untested Maxim chips was hijacked in Malaysia. Though Maxim offered a $50,000 reward, the company eventually learned that the untested chips were smuggled out of Malaysia and offered for sale in the Asian markets.

The part numbers of the recently stolen chips are available on Maxim's Web site. The company said it advises against the purchase of the listed devices from any seller other than those approved by the Maxim.
