Samsung Electronics and LG.Philips LCD separately reported the commencement of 7th generation (7G) thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) panel production.
Samsung began mass production at Line 7-2, its second 7th generation (7G) TFT-LCD line, two months after the company concluded pilot production of a 40-inch S-PVA panel in November.
Samsung said it will invest a total of (4.132 trillion Korean won) in Line 7-2 for the production of panels for LCD TVs of 32-inches and larger, with the investment covering two phases. Phase one includes a (2.368 trillion Korean won) investment to reach a monthly production capacity of 45,000 substrates, with an additional (1.764 trillion won) invested in a second phase to add another 45,000 substrates to capacity for a full-scale production capacity of 90,000 substrates per month. Phase two is expected to conclude during the second half of the year.
Then, at Seoul, Korea-based LG.Philips LCD, the company also said Monday that it has commenced mass production at P7, its 7th generation plant in Paju, Korea, by beginning the production of 42-inch panels.
