After recently announcing his intentions to resign his post as chairman of United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), Robert Tsao today kept his word by officially announcing his resignation, which will take effect January 9.
UMC held a directors meeting today, where an adjustment for the chairman position was discussed, according to the company filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE). Both chairman and vice chairman John Hsuan will resign from their present positions.
As proposed by Tsao, present company CEO Jackson Hu will perform as the new chairman.
However, by consensus, the board voted to maintain the ex chairman and vice chairman as honorary chairman and vice chairman, respectively. Both will serve as consultants for UMC and chair board meetings.
