Taiwanese liquid crystal display powerhouse AU Optronics Corp. has signed a broad cross-licensing agreement with Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. to allow each other expanded access to their patent portfolios.
AU Optronic (Hsinchu, Taiwan) described the agreement as “a significant expansion” of the companies' relationship. The sharing of each other’s patents provides an opportunity for further technological and business cooperation, AU Optronics said.
The cross license covers patents in the area of thin-film-transistor LCD and organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology, especially so far as they are applied to LCD television.
