Flash memory specialist Spansion Inc. said mobile phone along with consumer and auto electronics applications pushed fourth-quarter net sales higher.
Spansion (Sunnyvale, Calif.) said Wednesday (Jan. 18) that net sales jumped 15 percent over the previous quarter to $592 million. The total was 21-percent higher than the same period last year.
For its fiscal year ending Dec. 25, 2005, the company reported net sales of $2 billion, down from $2.26 billion in fiscal 2004. The company's annual net loss jumped to $304 million, or $4.15 per share, compared to $19.7 million, or $0.27 a share, in fiscal 2004.
The chip maker said it cut its operating losses in 4Q by 25 percent to $37 million. Net loss for the period was $48 million, or $0.63 per share.
Spansion's MirrorBit flash technology accounted for 30 percent of sales in the fourth quarter, up from 24 percent in the previous quarter.

Spansion CEO and President Bertrand Cambou said in a statement that it intends to accelerate deployment of MirrorBit technology, including its Nand product line announced on Wednesday. It's Ornand product targets the market for cellphone Nand flash memory.
