Motorola said its fourth-quarter earnings rose, helped by strong sales of its mobile phones. It reported net profit of $1.2 billion, or 47 cents per share, compared with $647 million, or 26 cents per share a year earlier.
Sales rose to $10.43 billion, compared with $8.84 billion in the same quarter a year ago. The company said it shipped a record number of 44.7 million mobile phone handsets during the quarter.
The company forecast 2006 first-quarter earnings of 27 cents to 29 cents per share for the 2006 first quarter on revenue of $9.3 billion to $9.5 billion.
