South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. expects its strength in flat screen TVs to propel it to TV sales of $10 billion by 2010.
In a report Wednesday (Feb. 8), Yoon Sang-han, vice-president of LG’s Display division was quoted as saying during a product rollout, "By 2010, we aim to become the world's largest supplier of liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma (PDP) TVs, leveraging our influence in the manufacturing and supply of PDP and LCD panels." Toward that goal, Korea's second largest consumer electronics maker plans to surpass other PDP panel suppliers by boosting production capacity.
On the LCD side, LG Electronics has been working with its affiliate LG. Philips LCD to cut production costs through standardization.
The company plans to leverage plants in Korea, China, Poland and Mexico as strategic production hubs.
In the product rollout, LG unveiled 37-, 42-, and 47 inch LCD TVs and 42- and 50 inch plasma TVs. All have a built-in 250-gigabyte hard disk drive that can store an hour of HD video content or 92 hours of standard definition content.
