Hewlett-Packard will announce plans to make its hand-held device business a stand-alone entity, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing company executives.
The company will separate its portable device business from its notebook computer operations to benefit from the growth of devices that allow consumers to make phone calls and check electronic mail, among other functions, the Journal reported. Hewlett-Packard has also appointed David Rothschild, a former executive at rival Sun Microsystems to lead the hand-held business, the report said.
