NAND-based flash memory spot prices for 2- and 8-gigabit parts have fallen below the contract prices posted during the week of Jan , according to DRAMeXchange.
Spot prices for 16- and 4-Gbit NAND flash fell 25 percent and 21 percent to $52.52 and $16.07, respectively. Prices for 1- and 2-Gbit both suffered an 18 percent sequential drop at $5.68 and $9.55, respectively, while 8-Gbit also recorded a 10 percent fall to $34.18.
“1Q is usually the seasonal low period for NAND flash and some card makers still have plenty of NAND flash stock on hand,” according to the DRAMeXchange.
There are also a glut of memory cards and MP3 players circulating in the channels, according to the firm. Apple Computer recently rolled out the 1-GB iPod nano at $149, but cut the prices for its iPod Shuffles, according to the report.
