AMD filed to subpoena Skpe record

Friday, March 3, 2006

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) has filed a subpoena to obtain documents from Skype as part of the chip maker’s suit against Intel Corp., according to reports.

Skype, EBay Inc.'s Internet-phone unit, recently signed a deal with Intel. Chip maker Intel is working with Skype to add features to Skype's internet telephony software, but the features are restricted to Intel dual core processors. The collaboration has started with 10-way conference calling and Skype plans to add video calling optimized for Intel processors.

AMD (Sunnyvale, Calif.) claims the deal is anticompetitive and against the best interests of consumers.

The move is part of its suit against Intel. Last year, AMD filed an antitrust suit against Intel, alleging that its archrival has been operating an unlawful monopoly in the x86 microprocessor market and has coerced computer makers, distributors, small system builders and retailers in their dealings with AMD.
