Intel announced its so-called "Discover the PC" initiative in an effort to propel the computer in developing nations.
As part of the initiative, Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini introduced in Mexico a low-cost desktop PC platform available to first time computer users. Intel and Telmex will collaborate to expand the use of technology in Mexico by making a new type of desktop PC available to first-time computer users.
Intel plans to make the low-cost PCs available through government agencies and telecommunications companies in Mexico, Brazil, Egypt, Ghana and Nigeria, with expansion to other countries later in the year.
A prototype of the laptop has been specified at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
