DRAM manufacturers in Taiwan are optimistic of prices trending upwards by Q3 of this year despite declines in the past few weeks.
Powerchip Semiconductor Corp., Nanya Technology Corp. and Inotera Memories Inc. said that the PC market hot season in June should push prices up through Q3. PSC said DRAM contract prices would still lag next month and may even decline in May due to the usual slow season. However, PSC chairman Frank Huang said that quotes would pick up in June. Nanya also expects prices to rebound in June after downturns in April and May. Nanya spokesperson Pei-lin Pai said that DRAM supply would still surpass demand for the next two months. Pai also disclosed that by midyear, the market presence of dual-core Napa products and the release of Microsoft's Vista operating system and AMD's DDR2-supporting CPUs would help raise demand for the memory products.
Inotera also projected that DRAM demand would surge in the middle of this year and would stay strong through 2008. Charles Kao, president of Inotera, commented that the robust consumer electronics market would also provide orders for DRAM products.
