Transmeta Corp., a processor technology developer and licensor, has agreed to provide more than 100 engineers to take on a number of design and engineering services projects for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Sony Corporation.
A previous set of agreements between Transmeta (Santa Clara, Calif.) and the Sony Group expired on March 31, 2006, corresponding to the Sony Group's fiscal year end, as revealed in Transmeta’s end of year financial results .
The latest agreements call for Transmeta to perform a variety of design and engineering services for the Sony Group over project periods ranging from three months to one year, ending March 31, 2007. Transmeta is providing the services of more than 100 engineers initially in the second quarter of 2006. The two companies are discussing the addition of other projects to the agreement, Transmeta said.
“I am pleased with the excellent execution by our engineering team during the past year, and I am delighted that Sony is moving forward with us in their new fiscal year,” said Arthur Swift, president and chief executive officer of Transmeta, in a statement. “We continue to believe that Transmeta's low power expertise and advanced design capabilities can contribute strongly to Sony's strategy,” he also said.
