Foundry chip provider Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC) posted March sales revenue of NT$27.1 billion (about $835 million), up 53.9 percent from NT$17.610 billion (about $540 million) posted in March 2005. In February TSMC’s sales jumped 40 percent compared with February 2005 showing that TSMC’s pace of growth is accelerating in March.
The March sales were also up 12.9 percent sequentially from NT$24.0 billion (about $740 million), posted for February 2006 announced on March 10.
As a result of the strong March performance TSMC’s sales revenue for the first quarter of 2006 was NT$77.3 billion (about $2.39 billion), up 38.9 percent from the NT$55.653 billion (about $1.72 billion).
Although TSMC released a statement it did not offer any detail on unit expansion or increases in average selling prices. TSMC has been reported to be running close to maximum capacity suggesting that price increases are driving revenue increases. TSMC’s monthly results eclipsed those of rival United Microelectronics Corp., as is frequently the case. March sales at UMC increased more than 20 percent year-on-year to reach NT$8,456 million (about $260 million).
