ProMOS Technologies anticipates that its production capacity allotted for foundry services will double to 20,000 8-inch equivalent wafers by the end of this year, thanks to strong memory orders, said company vice president of sales and marketing group Ben Tseng.
The company plans to allot a monthly capacity of 10,000 8-inch equivalent wafers for foundry services this quarter, with the allotted capacity accounting for about 10% of ProMOS’ overall capacity.
ProMOS currently has a monthly capacity of 35,000 12-inch wafers and 40,000 8-inch wafers, the company stated. Capacity for 12-inch wafer production should increase to 60,000 by the end of the year, while 8-inch capacity will remain unchanged.
Concerning foundry services, ProMOS is seeing increased orders from STMicroelectronics (ST), said Tseng. While declining to unveil concrete details about ST’s order amounts, ProMOS admitted that it has landed extra orders from ST. ProMOS starts shipping memory for ST in the third quarter of 2005.
