Nanya optimistic about demand for rest of the year

Wednesday, April 19, 2006

With demand for DRAM growing unexpectedly strong during the traditional low season in the second quarter, Nanya Technology and affiliated memory maker Inotera Memories are optimistic about demand levels for the rest of the year.

Nanya spokesman Pei-lin Pai pointed out that as demand for PCs has been declining, many analysts thought that the DRAM market would be hit by seasonality in the second quarter. However, demand has been growing so far this quarter, Pai pointed out.

Pai predicts that demand in the second half of the year will grow particularly strong once the traditional high season comes.

Inotera president Charles Kao said judging from the present strong demand, the company’s output will be unable to meet demand.

In addition, DRAMeXchange recently indicated that Samsung Electronics is experiencing yields issues on 90nm-made DRAM production, which should further affect supply and boost OEM orders for other DRAM makers.
