Demand for silicon foundry services is picking up at a much faster rate than previously expected, according to an executive from UMC.
UMC originally projected that the IC business would pick up in the second half of this year, namely in the third quarter, said Fu Tai Liou, president of the company’s U.S. subsidiary.
Now, the market is picking up steam due to wireless and other segments. “We found that the business is getting very strong,” Liou.
“Customers are asking for more capacity from us,” he said.
