Helped by its computer services businesses, Fujitsu reported a surge in annual profit while Hitachi posted a net profit.
Fujitsu reported a net profit of $601.3 million for last business year, more than double its $279.6 million profit the previous year. While for the same period, Hitachi reported a net profit of $327 million, down from $451.2 million a year earlier, on sales of $82.9 billion.
Hitachi said its earnings were hurt by its money-losing flat TV, liquid crystal display (LCD) and hard disk drive (HDD) operations last year, although it aims to make its LCD and HDD businesses profitable by the second half of the current business year to March 2007.
