United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) has received orders from nVIDIA for graphic-chip with 90-nm process technology. It is the first time that UMC gets nVIDIAfs order for the leading edge technologies.
nVIDIA is one of the top three customers of another Taiwan semiconductor giant, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), and the company used to purchase those products with leading edge technology from TSMC. This time nVIDIA turns to purchase from UMC is seen to have some influence of TSMCfs revenues in the second half of this year.
According to the industry, UMC will send the sample of nVIDIAfs G7 graphic-chip to certificate in May and will have volume production in the second half of this year. The order is expected to contribute some of the revenue of UMC in the second half of year. However, UMC declined to have any comment on the orders from any certain customer.
