Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor have agreed to pay millions of dollars to settle a lawsuit filed against them for price fixing. The Korean manufacturers were among a group of chipmakers accused by the U.S. government of conspiring to fix DRAM chip prices.
A district court in San Francisco ordered Samsung to pay US$67 million in fines and Hynix $73 million. The two chip giants have pleaded guilty to price fixing with other firms between 1999 and 2002, and executives from the Korean companies have also agreed to serve jail terms of several months.
