Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) continues to position itself as a third-party chipset supplier that targets entry-level and mid-range products in the worldwide chipset market, according to company president and CEO Daniel Chen.
The Taiwan-based chipset supplier plans to launch in 2007 next-generation chipset products, which will be manufactured on a 80nm process technology, said Chen.
While facing strong competition from Intel, ATI Technologies and Nvidia, SiS will continue to develop its chipset portfolio for low-priced PC applications, Chen noted. Implementing the 80nm manufacturing technology will allow the company to lower production costs and provide for more capacity, Chen indicated, adding that the company is seeking growth in profits.
In the second half of 2006, SiS will launch its 671-series PCI Express (PCIe) chipsets, which feature DDR2 memory and the Mirage 3 engine core (DX9 graphics core, 256-bit 3D accelerator engine and up to 256MB shared memory), for the Intel Pentium 4 or Pentium D platform, according to the company's product roadmap. Meanwhile, SiS will also introduce the 771 series for the AMD Athlon 64FX/ X2/ AM2 CPUs.
In 2005, SiS shipped 23 million chipsets, of 3.5 million units were for notebooks, according to Chen, who is optimistic about the company's outlook for this year. SiS will showcase its first server-use chipset line, the SiS 761SX northbridge and 966 sourthbridge, for the AMD Opteron Socket F dual-core platform during the upcoming Computex 2006 IT trade show, said Chen. End products incorporating the server-use chipset series are expected to appear in the market in October, Chen indicated.
