Google is working with Asustek Computer, Micro-Star International (MSI), as well as Gigabyte, for supply of new 4-way server motherboards, according to industry sources.
The new orders are expected to be smaller in shipment volume than those Google has recently awarded Gigabyte, but the profits margins will be higher, the sources said.
Gigabyte's server shipments for Google exceed its total server shipments for Hitachi, Fujitsu Siemens, and a client in China, the sources indicated.
Server shipments to Google currently total about 30,000 units per month at a unit price of about US$200. The margin is about 10%, far lower than the usual 20% for servers, the sources said.
