Fabless chip company Impinj Inc., a licensor of embedded non-volatile memory intellectual property, has made a deal with SanDisk Corp., the world's largest supplier of flash data storage cards.The memory technology of Impinj (Seattle, Wash.) is known as AEON and Impinj licensed the technology to National Semiconductor Corp. in September 2003 and to Analog Devices Inc, in February 2005. As a result Impinj's suite of NVM products shipped in more than 100 million units in 2005. AEON cores offer multiple-times programmability but require no additional mask layers or processing steps. AEON can store encryption keys, unique chip identification numbers, chip or system configuration data and trim bits for on-chip analog components.
SanDisk said it would integrate AEON non-volatile memory into its portable device control chips, which go into such products as flash memory cards.
