Tokyo-based DRAM giant Elpida Memory Inc. reported today that its 512Mbit Double Data Rate 2 Synchronous DRAM (DDR2 SDRAM) has been qualified on a 90nm manufacturing process at Shanghai, China-based wafer foundry Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp.’s (SMIC) 300mm facility in Beijing.
Elpida president and CEO Yukio Sakamoto said in a statement, “We believe this would result in further expansion of Elpida’s production capacity of 90nm process products. Based on the success of the qualification of the 90nm products, we will start considering the installation in SMIC of Elpida’s advanced processes for our future products.”
Richard Chang, President and CEO of SMIC added, “SMIC will take aggressive steps to establish stable volume production of the product and expand our production capacity to meet our customer’s needs. SMIC intends to continue to strengthen our technology to further deliver advanced products that have been developed at Elpida.”
