Montecito, Intel¡¦s dual-core processor for high-end servers, will be launched in New York today.
It has already been adopted in servers by Fujitsu, and Intel said it is shipping it to various server manufacturers.
According to analysts at In-Stat, Montecito¡¦s power consumption will be less than 100W. Transistor count is 1.72bn and L3 cache is 24MByte.
Montecito is not going to be a high volume runner. The limited amount of high-end servers built in the world means that Montecito is aimed at a niche market which is under threat as more companies network mid-range machines to achieve super-computer performance.
