Toshiba has decided to close down it's fab production site in Braunschweig, Germany. The chip production will be transferred to Japan.
The newspaper Braunschweiger Zeitung reported Saturday (July 29) that the production line in that town will be closed down by 2007 and the 132 employees were informed last Friday.
In Braunschweig, the company produces semiconductors for use in computer applications, the paper writes.
Local and regional politicians hope to keep the fab open and are in contact with Toshiba. Toshiba Germany was not available for comment.
