Motorola plans to push sales of Linux-based handsets in the US and European markets starting in 2007, with a plan being for Linux to support over 50% of the handsets released by Motorola, according to sources at Taiwan handset makers that are familiar with Motorola's handset roadmap.
Motorola will launch Linux-based handsets for all market segments, with the price range falling between US$100 and US$300 for the entry-level and mid-range segments, the sources noted.
In addition, Motorola will work with Panasonic, NEC, Samsung, NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone, as well as with OEM handset makers, to establish a platform standard for Linux-based handsets, the sources stated
