Mainstream contract prices for DRAM generally saw a continuous up-trend from late August, according to figures posted by DRAMeXchange. The latest contract quotes from DRAM makers show that 512Mbit DDR2-533 enjoyed the highest sequential growth among mainstream chips.
DRAMeXchange indicated that it had seen some DRAM makers reallocate stocks normally reserved for the spot market, to fulfill demand in the contract market in early September, amid an industry-wide tight supply.
Some DRAM makers are proposing to negotiate more frequently with PC OEMs, so that their quotations will apply to the most recent updates on pricing. DRAM makers usually negotiate deals with PC OEMs as frequently as once a week, as opposed to the traditional once or twice a month.
