AMD to open Romania Center

Thursday, September 21, 2006

Processor chip vendor Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has opened an office in Bucharest, Romania, to support and control the company's activities in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary, according to an online report at Nine O'Clock, which referenced company officials as sources.

The operations of AMD (Sunnyvale, Calif.) in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary, would be led by Ramona Prodea, the report said.

"The East-European market is now growing fast and the expectation is that the same growth will continue. Therefore we thought it would be important to establish a permanent presence in Romania and have on our team someone who could work directly with our customers in meeting their needs, as well as to strengthen existing partnerships," the report quoted Pierre Brunswick, an AMD sales and marketing vice president, as saying.

AMD had an 18.2 percent share of the PC processor market in Romania at the end of the second quarter of 2006, according to the report, which referenced a survey conducted by International Data Corp. (IDC). At the same time, in terms of units, AMD's market share was 28.9 percent, the report said.
