STMicroelectronics has licensed Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. advanced flash memory, OneNAND.
OneNAND's architecture features NAND core with SRAM and logic elements to emulate a NOR flash interface. According to Samsung, it delivers a sustained data read speed of 108 Mbytes/s, four times faster than conventional NAND flash, and a write speed of 10 Mbyte/s.
According to the agreement, STMicroelectronics will support Samsung's OneNAND starting early 2007. Further terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Samsung welcomes STMicroelectronics' decision to support the projected strong continued growth of the world's highest performing flash memory," Yun-Ho Choi, senior VP of Samsung Electronics' semiconductor business' flash solution team, said in a statement. "As a result of STMicroelectronics' licensing move, handset and other platform designers can more easily specify OneNAND in an expanding range of mobile applications."
