Acer Inc. reported a 40 percent rise in nine-months net profit on Thursday, thanks to a global rise in demand for laptop computers.
The firm posted a net profit of T$8.95 billion for the first three quarters, and also posted a better-than-expected 6 percent fall in third-quarter profits.
Acer, Taiwan's top computer brand and the world's fourth-largest PC vendor, made a net profit of T$1.85 billion ($55.5 million) in the July-September quarter, down from T$1.97 billion in the same period a year ago.
The result beat expectations for a T$1.74 billion third quarter profit, based on the mean of forecasts from eleven analysts surveyed by Reuters Estimates.
