Computer maker Sun Microsystems Inc. posted a narrower quarterly net loss as revenue rose 17 percent, helped by its acquisition of tape storage company StorageTek and growth in its services business.
Sun reported a net loss for its first fiscal quarter ended October 1 of $56 million, or 2 cents per share, versus a year-ago net loss of $123.0 million, or 4 cents per share. Revenue rose to $3.19 billion from $2.73 billion.
Excluding charges for restructuring and amortization, Sun made a profit of 1 cent against average analyst expectation of a loss of 4 cents, according to Reuters Estimates. The analyst estimates called for revenue, on average, of $3.18 billion.
