Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Monday (Oct. 30) rolled out the first product borne of its recent acquisition of ATI Technologies Inc., a graphics card that makes use of ATI's CrossFire technology and is billed as providing "gaming enthusiast-class" technology at a low price point—$149.
According to AMD (Sunnyvale, Calif.), the ATI Radeon X1650 XT is capable of simultaneously supporting high dynamic range effects and anti-aliasing, resulting in high performance. The graphics card, scheduled to hit store shelves the week of Nov. 13, also boasts sharp texture filtering, AMD said.
"This new product simplifies the CrossFire experience by using two identical ATI Radeon X1650 XT CrossFire branded cards," said Rick Bergman, senior vice president and general manager of AMD's graphics products group, in a statement. "Gamers can expect strong performance, flexibility and upgradeability with this new card."
CrossFire technology, which enables multi-graphics processor unit rendering on all applications, works on a range of Intel and AMD platforms, including AMD socket 939 and AM2 motherboards, as well as Intel 975X and P965 motherboards, AMD said.
Incorporating ATI's Avivo imaging technology, the ATI Radeon X1650 XT provides video playback for high-definition media formats, displaying one billion colors, or 10-bit throughout the graphics pipeline, according to AMD. The new card is HDCP-compliant, including a built-in EEPROM and HDCP key, the company said. The ATI Radeon X1650 XT is also ready for Windows Vista with Windows Hardware Quality Labs-certified drivers from AMD, the company said.
